It's Your Life: Are you hitting SNOOZE...?

Today I Woke Up.

I have been thinking a lot about this whole "Snooze" idea. Far too many times in my life I have had some great business idea, or a creative song concept and instead of just taking action and creating or starting, I pressed snooze. I would think, "Thats a great idea but I have so much on my plate." Or "If I only knew the right person I could get this business off of the ground." Truth is, I HATE starting. I am a notorious procrastinator. I put off things and then put them off again. Then it becomes no big deal. I have no sense of urgency about it since I haven't done anything about it so far.

If you are anything like me then you know what I'm talking about. I must say that I have accomplished a small amount of feats in my 31 years on this earth. I graduated College after siting out for 5 years. I'm a working musician and I run L. Griffin Transport which is the business my father handed down to me before he passed. I got married. I have produced music for world famous musicians and artists. However I feel as if there is so much more that I have to offer the world.

The Moment of Clarity.

This morning before I woke up finally at 9:15 I hit the snooze button 5 times on my iPhone. But you know what happens after you keep hitting snooze? The alarm stops. Then you have to wake yourself up which is way harder than just waking up with the alarm in the first place. You have to trust that you don't oversleep (which usually you do). You don't have the drive or the motivation to wake up.

Plan of Action!

Here is a plan to help you get on the right track! You have to be able to see where you are going. Thats why writing it down is helpful.

1. Create a list of long term goals

Example (Start a business, Lose 50 lbs,)

2. Create a list of short term goals

(Fit in bikini, Buy a scooter for summer)

3. Break short term list down into tasks

(File for business, Save $75 a week, Gym twice a week)

4. Do something everyday to achieve 1 task

5. Re- visit the lists you made at the end of the week.

I encourage you to stop hitting the snooze button on your life because you only get one. If you have an Idea or business to handle then do it. Currently I am reading "Poke the Box" by Seth Godin (audio book of course) and he talks about how our society teaches us to conform and to become a cog in a system of other cogs, but no one teaches you how to take initiative. We are always waiting for someone to tell us its ok to be who we want to be. But we don't have to. Now is the time to stand up and take charge of your own destiny. So for the love of God wake up and please please pretty please stop hitting snooze!

My 10 Rules to Personal Growth & Success
Since I get asked these type of questions all the time, I decided to just put it in a post. Enjoy

1. Don’t use people

Never call upon people only when you need something. If you haven’t called someone for months, even to just say hello, but the minute you know they can help you, you give them a shout, that is not cool. My first thought when I see certain numbers on my phone is: “I wonder what this person wants from me now?” You never want to be that person in someone’s phone book.

2. Offer help first

You should always offer your help or services first! The minute you offer help or your services I promise you that phone call won’t seem so awkward. Always take care of the people who help you out, do it any way you can and no matter what.

3. Invest in your progress.

If you have to spend money to make a long distance call just to talk about an opportunity, make it happen. If you have to drive out of your way and spend money on gas just for a potential opportunity, make it happen. If you need to get on a plane just to connect with someone for 5 minutes, do what you have to do. Too many people decide not to make that call, or take that trip and that can be a life-changer. I myself have gotten on planes just to make a meeting happen. I knew the opportunity had the potential to be great, so I made it happen. (It never worked out mind you, but it was still worth the personal growth.)

4. Don’t hide behind emails or text messages.

If you have to call someone to talk about something, make it happen. It is really easy to say: “Oh I sent you an email and I never heard back from you.” Connect with people face-to-face or on the phone. Too many times people rather send you an email of bad news, or even send you an email to avoid talking to you, or just to say they reached out.

5. Be generous  Share your time, thoughts, ideas and things.

I’ve noticed the people who decide to be greedy and keep everything to themselves lose the most in the long run. The more you give, the more you receive, it is just the law of the universe. If you get two give away one, it is as simple as that. Sometimes if you don’t have, still give what you can. Don’t be greedy, share. There is enough of everything for everyone.

6. Don’t be annoying

Allow things to happen organically, which means give it its time. If something is urgent you are always more than welcome to follow up and you have a right to be persistent, but don’t become a bother. It is easier for someone to cut you off than to put you on.

7. Don’t abuse your friendships or put people in compromising situations.

Never put people in a situation where you put their back up against a wall, they will start to despise you. Don’t ever namedrop a friend’s name or bring a friend into a situation that he or she has nothing to do with, especially in business. Some people will use your name in order to make things happen for themselves, that’s not cool. You know those kind of people: “Hey I know so and so make this happen for me?”

8. Don’t abuse the power of social media

We are all part of social media networks for different reasons, so it does not mean we want to be spammed or bombarded with your music of your new projects. There is an etiquette that needs to be followed. When you are constantly @’ing people who don’t even follow you about your projects, you are doing yourself a great disservice. They start to hate everything you stand for and will never give you the shine you are looking for. Don’t constantly promote your projects on other people’s Facebook walls, that is the most annoying thing you can do, especially since a lot of people use Facebook as a personal media network.
If people choose to follow you or be your friend you have every right to promote your projects on your respective side, but don’t start abusing the people who have not subscribed to what you are doing.

9. Be respectful

You never know who is going to be who, or who you might need to call upon, or do a favor for, or even work for, so always be kind and respectful. The person you might shit on might end up being the person who opens or closes a door for you.

10. Become a person of your word.

No one likes excuses, even the most compelling ones. If you say you are going to do something, like make a phone call, submit a project or pay someone, whatever it may be, try and stick to what you say! People put a lot of stock in what you tell them, so you don’t want the reputation of someone who is unreliable.
People love working with people that they can depend on and that are reliable. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you are not reliable you are worthless.
These are just some of the rules that I try to abide by. They have been extremely instrumental on my journey to success.

Diddy-Dirty Money: Last Train To Paris The Power Review

This is an exclusive OT the Power Mogul review of Diddy-Dirty Money's Last Train To Paris. (I'm doing this review as I chop up samples of the album to give away to you guys)

Intro: It seemed a bit long. I liked the feeling of not knowing what to expect. I skipped it the first listen.

Yeah Yeah You Would: Feat. Grace Jones
Caught my attention instantly. The drum track is so rugged over the smooth pads and synths. I also like the buzz lead that sounds like an alarm or something is happening. Great dance track and I love the energy.

I Hate that You Love Me:
Nice Piano groove on top of a tribal like dance beat. this song is nice sounds like a filler.

Ass on the Floor: Feat. Swizz Beats
One of the best songs on the album! This song is crazy! It's one of those songs that you can't forget once u hear it. I feel like I'm in the club when this song comes on.. On the dance floor "drunker than a MFer." Lyrics like Theres no me if there's no you.. I'll give my soul to you." this record is classic with Swizz beats on the hook. The drum track sounds like an Acid Jazz loop over synth strings! It's dope.

Looking For Love:
This song is featuring Usher. The beat bangs. I liked that I couldn't predict where the track was going with the chord changes at first. Nice track. Sounds like a possible radio single.

Someone to Love Me: Featuring Jerry Duplessis, Watson
This sounds like one of those tracks that Diddy wants to rap by himself. I know he is Talking about how he is lonely chasing money and his dreams. The only thing that saves this song is the Jamaican style riddim reminiscent of Shyne Po. (which would have made an awesome feature but considering the circumstances) so this song is really just an album filler to me.

Hate You Now:
This is an overall ok track but it starts out horrible. The chorus is nice. The drums switch up halfway through the song. Really nice.

Yesterday: Feat. Chris Brown.
This is a stand out track definitely. Real pain music, "I feel like a killer hit me" Yesterday I fell in love today feels like my funeral." one of my favorites on the album. Also one of the few songs that Kaleena and Dawn do not sing on.

Shades: Feat. Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Bilal, James Fauntleroy.
I thought this poem intro by Weezy was cool. The quote that got me was "I'll pour a gallon of gasoline on my heart just to light your cigarette." this song will grow on me. I will jam this every night in like 3 months. I also like the mix of features on this song. Very un conventional.

Angels: Feat. Rick Ross and Notorious B.I.G.
Ok I o like Ross' verse however I don't like how Diddy trying to make us believe Ross is the new BIG. Other than this, it's a great track. The "Streets is Watching" sample is timeless. Diddy nailed it on this one as far as channeling the spirits of the souls we have lost through the journey of life. (Sidenote I used to play this every night when my father was in the hospital before he died.) Great song. "The Angels are flying so low."

Your Love: Feat. Trey Songz
Club banger for sure. Sounds like bottoms up part 2. The DM girls sound great. They sound Keri Hilson ish however I like it.

Strobe Lights: feat Lil Wayne
I didn't like this track when I first heard the leak but I give it a C for effort. It's a new sound for Diddy and Wayne. It might grow on me but I know the Djs will play it to death in the Dance/Trance clubs.

Hello Goodmorning: feat T.I.
Love this songs energy. Everybodys heard this. Moving on

Last Night pt.2:
I liked part 1 much better. It's a filler but still flows with the album theme. The Prince sounding music always catches you.

I Know: Feat. Chris Brown and Wiz Khalifa
This song hits the heart string deep! I LOVE this song. It starts off slow and then that kick drum drive is the heartbeat of the song. Also I appreciate Diddy using CB again for this song. So appropriate. "I Know I Fd Up" "Baby I need U" is on point! Wiz Khalifa's verse was hot. I love the way he comes back in to finish the verse over the hook. Brilliance.

Loving You No More: Feat Drake
Great single. Drake always kills. Take note of the Church chord progressions that really give this song it's soul. Reminds mr of old Mary J Blige. I would love to hear a remix with her on it.

Change:
By far one of the most challenging songs for Sean P.Diddy Combs to perform. Simply because it's featuring him alone. Singing. I was truly impressed by this record. It fully embodied the Last Train to Paris feel. It takes u on the train ride of his love life in one song. Tricky Stewart and the Dream Nailed this one. It's probably my number 3 favorite song on the album. "Now I'm on this train that's falling off the edge.." (note the trademark vocal fall that Dream and Tricky use right there.) Classic

Coming Home: Feat Skylar Grey
The perfect ending of and album song. Diddy looks himself in the mirror and shows us his flaws and all. "It's easy to be Puff but it's harder to be Sean." The huge pianos and orchestra sounding violins are what make this song feel triumphant. This is the victory lap track in what sounds like the making of a masterpiece.

Summary:
This album plays like your favorite scene in your favorite movie 18 times. It takes you from the vanity and insanity of the club and night life to the introspection and inside thoughts of how a troubled man really feels. Success is a drug and it can ruin your love life if you let it. This train ride to Paris is symbolic of a man who has it all except one thing. Love. This is his last chance to get on board.

Is Hip Hop Still Dead? I Don't Think So: Here's Why

Is Hip Hop Dead? That's a question that has been the topic of discussion for over 10 years. As I'm listening to the new Diddy-Dirty Money album (Last Train To Paris Exclusive Music Heads Review Coming Soon) I realized something. This is actually the BEST music that Hip Hop has ever made. I know some won't agree and before you start cussing and click the x in the browser tab think about this. Kanye West just released "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" (which I Love btw)and in my opinion I think Rap music fans are finally embracing real music being a part of the great culture of Hip Hop. There is a emerging genre of music that is finally seeming to peak it's head out of Hip Hop (Rap) music. New artists like Drake, B.o.B., Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj & Wiz Khalifa are bringing real music to the forefront. The new Hip Hop music is starting to have much more electronic and Trip Hop feel mixed with touches of Acid Jazz. Listen to "Ass on the Floor" by Diddy-Dirty Money, or "All of the Lights" by Kanye West. These songs embody influences from other genres that aren't Hip Hop. Drake's "So Far Gone" would not have been as accepted even 5 years ago when "Crunk was King." Jay Electronica is probably the most eclectic artist to recently sign to Jay Z's Roc-Nation has a sound that can only be explained as brilliantly genius. When I first heard "The Pledge" I knew that Electronica was on to something. (Jay E sampled the movie Eternal Sunshine of-the Spotless Mind)
I think the music has always been there but I am proud to see an audience hungry for music with actual substance production wise and lyrically. Today's Hip Hop fan is smarter, more intelligent and more scrupulous than ever and we as creators of music have a duty to give the fans what they want.

How Four Loko Sanitized Its Social Media

For those who haven't drunk it or seen the breathless news reports, Four Loko is a 23.5 ounce, 12% alcohol-by-volume malt beverage with 135-milligrams of caffeine. It costs $2.50 and is widely known as "blackout in a can." Several colleges have banned the drink and many more are warning students of its consequences.

Now the government is getting involved. The Food and Drug Administration is reviewing whether such concoctions are safe. Senator Chuck Schumer has urged the FTC to investigate whether the colorful cans are intended to attract under-age drinkers. And the drink's maker, Phusion Projects, has come under fire from news outlets such as the New York Times to CBS, which labeled Four Loko "liquid cocaine."

Others might call it a good time.

The drink is the latest in a long line of fads bolstered in popularity by their obvious dangers. Ironically, the more the FDA, FTC, and Chuck Schumer object to its existence, the more popular it is likely to become among millennials and on college campuses. The founders of Four Loko and Phusion Projects--three Ohio State University grads Jaisen Freeman, Jeff Wright, and Chris Hunter--have made an art of pushing their drinks--and their consumers--to the legal limits.

"Our drink isn't an energy drink--it's a caffeinated alcoholic beverage," says Chris Hunter, who spoke with a lawyer's defensiveness. "It's important that we frame it that way because that's the category it's in, and I stress that because some of the scrutiny is about misrepresentations of our brand. We've never called it an energy drink."

To hear Hunter tell it, the drink is no more controversial than any other beverage on the market. He points out that Budweiser is also available in a 24 ounce can; that Bud Light Lime comes in brighter packaging; that certain craft beers have as much as 21% alcohol by volume; that it contains only as much caffeine as a single Starbucks' coffee; that Four Loko has less alcohol than most wines and far less than hard liquor; that it has seven clear labels of its ingredients and content, including a first-of-its-kind "We ID" badge; and that at $2.50, it's "either the most expensive or near the most expensive" of similar-size malt beverages.

Clearly, Phusion Projects has been preparing its defense--not to mention sanitizing its image. Though Hunter says the company has never called its products energy drinks, in a 2006 distributor promotion, Hunter himself said Four "is the ideal drink for social, young adults looking for a great-tasting energy boost." And that was when the drink had half as much alcohol.

In the last week, Phusion Projects quietly altered its company profile. "In 2005, three college friends from The Ohio State University noticed the growing popularity of mixing alcoholic and energy drinks, like Red Bull and vodka, and decided to create a beverage company of their own," the profile originally read. That has been gingerly edited down to: "In 2005, three college friends from The Ohio State University had the entrepreneurial idea to start their own company."

Social media is another element Phusion Projects has tried to distance itself from. On YouTube, Four Loko music videos are incredibly popular--one by Gwop Gang has racked up around 1 million views. On Facebook, Four Loko group pages have tens of thousands of fans. But none of it is official, says the company.

"We don't get involved in social media," says Hunter. "We don't have a company-sponsored Facebook or MySpace or YouTube or Twitter. A lot of other companies in the alcohol industry do, but we wanted to be completely above the line as far as marketing our product responsibly. The stuff out there has happened on its own."

However, as BrandChannel discovered, Four Loko has in no way been divorced from social media. Phusion says its Facebook page (now removed, but pictured) was not "company-sponsored." Instead, it was created by interns. A now-removed section of the company's website called "Four Shots" (below) asked users to "show us your happy-face" by uploading photos with the company's drinks. Albums included college parties ("Northwestern Dillo Day"), while the page also included a game called "Four Play" and a blog called "Four Ever." Again, according to a company statement, these highly professional site features were created by interns.

When Hunter objected to me calling Four Loko an energy drink, I pointed out that I had read the language directly from Phusion Projects' website. Silence followed. I read him parts of the phrasing from the now-changed company profile ("three college friends from The Ohio State University noticed the growing popularity of mixing alcoholic and energy drinks, like Red Bull and vodka, and decided to create a beverage company of their own").

"Okay, no worries," he answered.

I then pointed out that the language is now different on the page.

"No worries," he said again.

So it's not an energy drink?

"No, this is a caffeinated alcoholic beverage."

Phusion's products--which have seen triple digit sales growth, according to Hunter--have become popular by pushing the legal limits. Four Loko isn't an energy drink--it's a caffeinated beverage. (What's the difference?) Four Loko is less alcoholic than other products. Four Loko is more expensive than other products. Four Loko is less bright than other products. Four Loko is this, Four Loko is that: one explanation after the next for why the beverage is not dangerous.

At one point, Hunter told me that, "as an interesting side-note, the label for alcohol content on our can is the largest that the federal government will allow." He meant this as another example of how the company was marketing its product responsibly. But isn't this exactly how it's also marketing Four Loko irresponsibly? When a beverage company is magnifying its proof to the max, isn't that just screaming for customers to take notice? The can fairly screams: We're 12%! Is that a precaution or a seduction? "We go above and beyond, as far as how our product is labeled and marketed," Hunter says. Indeed.

When I asked Hunter about a recent incident at Washington State where nine college students were hospitalized after drinking Four Loko, he said the company was being "singled out," and ticked off a list of justifications, as if he were again in front of a Senate committee:

"The police report showed there was supposedly illegal drugs at the party. That was mentioned about 14 times in the police report. There were multiple mentions of hard liquor, but there were only a few, maybe 2 to 3, mentions of Four Loko. It's really unfair to say our drink was the cause of this. As far as our company goes, we realize we are going to have to ramp up our efforts on consumer education because that's the most important thing to correct these misunderstandings about our product. So to educate consumers to drink responsibly, to not abuse or misuse alcohol, is very important and going to be the focus for our company."

But how can a company that makes and markets a drink that is nearly the equivalent of two Red Bulls and a six-pack of beer focus on educating the consumer not to abuse alcohol? Is it even possible to drink Four Loko responsibly?

"I mean, that depends on who you are," Hunter says. "Everyone is different as far as size, weight, how and how frequently they consume alcohol. There are plenty of people who take the can and pour it over ice and split it with people, and there are probably people who drink it by themselves."

And then black out.

1. They would have ALL been paid and on top of the rap game together.

2. If they decided to break away and get their own situations they could have signed label deals with Cash Money (Like Young Money did)

3. The Hot Boys would be considered one of the greatest Rap Groups of all time.

4. Turk might not be in jail.

5. Juveniles best work would not have been 400 degreez.

Looking back over the last 10 years the southern rap scene has changed dramatically. One thing remained constant, Cash Money Records. Mainly accredited to the success of Lil Wayne, However being a Cash Money fan and music collector.. its hard to see Juvenile, B.G. have struggling careers and never really reach their full potential. Even Mannie Fresh has seemed to fall somewhat under the radar since his departure from CM. I guess all empires crumble, but what I think we all can learn from Cash Money is that "1 Monkey don't stop no show." neither do 3 or 4 monkeys. Its without a doubt that Cash Money/Young Money has the top artist in the industry today with the new found success of Drake and Nicki Minaj. I love what CM has done as far as making each artists identity seperate yet still fit under the CM umberlla. With new artists emerging like Jay Sean and Kevin Rudolf it seems like the CM brand is moving in a new direction. I wonder how Juvenile feels when he see Lil Wayne and Drake all over the TV and on the radio all day? I guess like they say, hindsight is 20/20.

With live streaming becoming increasingly popular among the indie music community, our friends over at Justin.tv gave us this tutorial to get artists up to speed with using their site. If you’re not familiar with Justin.tv, it’s definitely worth a look as they have tools geared specifically for musicians.

Justin.tv is a free YouTube-like site that allows anyone to stream themselves on camera in real-time. It has seen a surge of interest ever since musicians started using the site like a video Twitter – as a way to have live video chats with their fans when they have a spare moment. We’ve prepared a small tutorial so that you can create an account and try it out. The process takes 3-5 minutes. All you need is a computer with a webcam and a built-in microphone, and a broadband internet connection.

Step 1: Create a Justin.tv account.

In the top right hand corner of the site, there’s a link to create a Justin.tv account. Choose your username carefully! The web page that your fans will go to will be www.justin.tv/[YourUsername].

Step 2: Click Broadcast and Enter Channel Info

Also in the top right hand corner is a Broadcast button. If it’s your first time, there’s a short information gathering page before you are directed to the Broadcaster window.

Step 3: Select inputs and quality and clicking Broadcast

Our system automatically detects your bandwidth connection and sets the correct upload rate. Before you click Broadcast though, make sure that you have the correct audio and video inputs. MacBooks in particular are known to have 3-4 different input types, so you might have to play around a little and select different cameras until you see your face on the screen. As musicians, set the Audio quality to 44 kHz sampling. Once you’re ready, go ahead and click broadcast and you’re live!

Step 4: Invite fans to your channel page

Fans can now see and chat with you at www.justin.tv/[YourUsername]. Visit this page to see what they’re saying and interact with them. Share the link around. If a user is trolling in chat, we give broadcasters the ability to ban users from chat. You can also assign a trusted user (a “Moderator”) to ban other users for you.

Step 5: Saving your broadcast: Archives and Clips
All your broadcasts are automatically recorded, and can be found by viewing your archives. We throw away archives periodically, but allow you to create clips that remain forever. Just use our clip creation tool on the side.

Tablets and Tunes: Will Apple's iPad Rock the Music World?
By now, you’ve probably heard all about the iPad, and seen the pictures of Steve Jobs displaying his new “tablet” in a manner undoubtedly familiar to the lateCharlton Heston. So far, reaction to the device has been mixed at best, with some people already lining up to take potshotsat Apple’s latest doohickey.
We still think it’s pretty neat, mostly because we’re curious about what it could mean for the music biz, which is still struggling to find an attractive (and profitable) alternative to physical product. Look, as long as whatever new gadget that comes along plays nice with independent and unaffiliated creators who want to join the digital party, we’re cool.
The iPad’s specs are certainly interesting: the touch screen (multitouch) is 9.7 inches in length (on a diagonal), and, because the body is only half-an-inch thick, it weighs a mere 1.5 pounds. In the weeks preceding today’s unveiling, Jobs was rumored to have said that the iPad represented “the most important thing he’s ever done,” and, as the proud papa dangled his newest creation in front of a packed house in San Francisco, some may have wondered… “um, why, exactly?”
The iPad will not actually arrive in stores until March, meaning, for the next six weeks or so, bloggers nationwide will sing its praises and tear it down as if on “shuffle.” None of this is likely to phase Apple, who seem eager to compete in new markets — the eBook reader biz among them. And, with the iPad’s “introductory price” of $499, it very well could give Amazon’s Kindle a run for its money.
Of course, we’re here to talk about music.
For those of you out there who miss the days of liner notes, producer credits and the good old fashioned “album experience,” there is reason to think — or at least reason to speculate — that the iPad will could indeed be something special for musicians and fans. Assuming that people do, in fact, want an digital facimile of old-fashioned
LP
, then the iPad — with its ten-inch screen and lush graphics — might take the not-so-major thrill of buying a digital music file from iTunes to a whole new level. To push this entirely speculative argument one step further, the iPad could give musicians more incentive to produce albums (and not just singles), by bundling the files in an oh-so-groovy package that could also include links to an artists’ website, tour dates, videos and so on and so forth. Again, the relative awesomeness of all of this depends on whether Apple keeps its storefront accessible to all artists, or becomes another gatekeeper. Currently, it’s pretty easy for even an unsigned artist to get their stuff on iTunes, and we have no reason to believe that this will change.

With all the hard work the indie music community puts into promotion and marketing of music, it’s amazing how often key information is missing from the message. It’s hard enough to get above the noise, so when you do get the attention of a potential fan, it’s important that the action you want them to take it clear. Our friends at the Echoes blog (blog.discmakers.com) wrote this great article about sending a clear message in your music promotion efforts.

It’s called a “Call to action” for a reason!

All the marketing in the world doesn’t amount to a hill of beans if it doesn’t elicit a response from your audience. That’s why it’s astonishing that so many marketing materials lack the key ingredient to ensure success: a strong call to action.

No one will argue that capturing your audience’s attention is paramount. But once you have it, you must make it 100% clear what you want them to do. How? By having a clear method for prospects to ask for more information, request a catalog, place an order, come in to your store… whatever your end goal is.

So what is a call to action?

A call to action is the specific action you’re asking your prospect/customer to take. It can be tied to a unique offer – such as an instant online discount for signing up for an email list – a simple mechanism that allows clients to “act” on your message, or even an alert to buy now because your sale ends today. It can be as simple as “Call for more information” listed next to your phone number, or “click here to register” with an active link in an email. It can create a sense of urgency with a deadline: “Register online by April 15th and save 10% on your next purchase.” Calls to action will vary from piece to piece, but what’s important to remember is that you always have one.

Print Ads

A large phone number and web address are musts (unique phone numbers and URLs are even better as they can help you track your ad results). Remember, you have a split second to capture someone’s attention, and his or her time is limited. Don’t expect a prospective client to hunt down your company online to find contact information. You never want to make it difficult for a potential buyer to contact you or purchase your product.

Catalog and Brochures

Having your phone number and URL on the outside is great, for starters. But consider repeating it on the inside of a brochure as well. And if you have a multiple-paged catalog, then by all means make sure you put your contact information on each and every spread. Again, every time you make someone work to find a call to action, you are putting up an unnecessary roadblock to making a sale.

Websites

Just because websites are digital vehicles, prominent placement of a phone number and a strong visual to call for more information do two things: One, it offers less tech-savvy individuals an outlet for inquiring about your services; and two, it adds credibility to a website, because customers will know there is a human being behind it.

Direct Mail

The mother of all “Calls to Action” is the Business Reply Card (aka the BRC). This handy little device allows users to quickly (and effortlessly, if preprinted) respond. BRCs are ideal for prospecting to rented lists or older names on your mailing list. From there you can follow up with responders with more focused and targeted marketing communications.

Remember the key to any marketing is to get your audience to respond, and the only way they can do that is you provide a call to action.

This year will host numerous events that could well change the course of the music industry. From the future of music giant EMI to the impact of the Performance Rights Act, many events that will occur in 2010 could have deep, long-term consequences. In no particular order, they are:
1. The Ticketmaster-Live Nation Merger
If the Department of Justice gives the merger a greenlight it would instantly create less competition in ticketing in the near term as Live Nation’s fledgling ticketing division ceases to be a competitor to Ticketmaster. In the long term, a combined Ticketmaster-Live Nation will be able to sell new entertainment packages in novel ways. Competitors may form partnerships and coalitions to act as a counterweight to the merged companies’ market power. In addition, the merger will inspire similar pairings as other companies jockey for competitive advantage. A denied merger will lead to greater competition in ticketing as Live Nation will continue growing its ticketing operations and the two companies will continue M&A activity in an effort to build for the future. Either way, both ticketing and promotion will never be the same.
2. The Performance Rights Act Changes Radio
In October 2009, the Performance Rights Act made it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The House passed its version in May. Although there is solid opposition, chances are good that Congress will vote on the bill in 2010. The Performance Rights Act would give both performing artists and owners of sound recordings royalties for performances on terrestrial radio. (Currently, only the composition merits a performance royalty.) Webcasters and satellite radio pay such royalties, but terrestrial radio has always been exempt.
The added expense comes at a bad time for a radio industry suffering from an advertising slump and shifting consumer behavior. How much money the record labels will collect is a big question. It’s logical that radio stations will take measures to limit their royalties. That may mean more talk radio or fewer songs played. Regardless, terrestrial radio will never be the same.
3. Internet Service Providers Become Partners
This will be the year Internet service providers become content partners rather than adversaries in the battle against piracy (mostly in Europe, where legislation will make partnerships more like shotgun marriages, but eventually in the United States as well). Partnerships will beget a new era of music services. As tends to be the case, however, the first entrants may not score a breakthrough but better services will appear and eventually the ISP will be an important and obvious point of contact for music-loving consumers. Aside from the possibility of reducing piracy, partnerships with ISPs have the potential to reach multitudes of light consumers who outnumber heavy users but spend little or nothing. The industry is busy extracting more value from the most passionate of fans (the heavy spenders). The real pot of gold will be found in reaching tens of millions of light users through ISPs.
4. Spotify Will Raise The Bar For Mobile Music
The celestial jukebox—access to all the world’s music—has been imagined for more than a decade, but the game-changer that fans and the industry have long desired will be a reality in 2010 if Spotify opens shop in the United States with supporting apps for the iPhone or Android. Spotify only has the music that the company has licensed (rather than a true “celestial” catalog of all recorded music) but its user-friendly interface puts it well above the competition. When people dreamed about unlimited access to music in the ’90s, they imagined something like Spotify on a mobile phone and PC.
5. Almost Any Way You Slice It, EMI Will Reshape The Industry
Whether it soars or is sold, the scenarios regarding EMI that will play out this year will reshape the music industry. Terra Firma, the company’s private equity owner, could slowly maneuver the company to profitability—and thereby offering a blueprint on how to turn around an ailing record label—merge EMI with a competitor, or sell off one or more of its divisions—thereby changing the music landscape and increasing consolidation in recorded music or publishing. If Terra Firma somehow restructures EMI’s debt, 2010 may look less revolutionary and more like 2009. But since private equity owners don’t intend to stick around forever, change is going to eventually come.

I know many artist ave big dreams of getting signed to a major record deal. They look at BET and MTV and say one day that will be them. This may very well be true for a few artists out there who are actually "lucky" enough to get signed or discovered. However this dream turns into a harsh reality to most artists when they realize that they are getting older and the trends o music are changing. Soon they start to feel as if their dream is slipping farther away.
I hate to see artists with the put me on mindset. This means that all they want to do is meet the right guy and "spit" for them and get signed. Now they are living the good life. Just make hit records and hit the clubs every night. While this sounds like what most rappers and singers do this is far from the truth.
Most artists don't realize that they are in a far better situation than the average artist they see on tv. They are in control of their own music. They own their masters and can reap the full benefits and profits of their work. Sites such as reverbnation.com and tunecore.com has given artists the tools they need to create a strong following online and also integrate the promotional efforts with other social networking sites like facebook.com and myspace.com
Due to the poor economy and declining record sales,record labels are closing it's doors left and right. The days of getting a 10 million dollar record deal so you can put an album out for you and all of your homeboys are long gone. No Limit and Cash Money crushed the industry with those stellar deals. Companies are now looking for the final product to distribute. Artists need to have their own production, album, artwork, website, strong fanbase, stage presence,image and viral media buzz BEFORE a major label is even considering to get behind them. This is why it is important that the artist get out of the "Put me on" mindset. A company wants to know that you are going to promote yourself just as hard before they spend a dollar on you. The good part about this is that once you get the ball rolling the more leverage you have in negotiating the best deal you can with a major.

Drake created a strong underground buzz for himself through a series of FREE mixtapes that lead to his multi million dollar deal with Cash Money/Young Money. Before the advent of affordable home recording technology, most bands and songwriters struggled to save up enough money to go into a professional recording studio to cut a demo or a record that would help them get noticed.
Invariably, once they were in the studio, these bands realized just how good they could sound if they only had a little more time in the studio to perfect their music. In short, unsigned bands were often caught in a bind trying to make the best possible recording in the shortest amount of time.
In the 1990s, the proliferation of affordable home recording programs such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, et al., took the studio clock out of the equation in many ways. Musicians could now soundproof a few rooms in their homes and after making an investment in a digital recording system and a powerful computer, spend as much time as they wished creating their own recordings. Unfortunately, home recordings may include flaws introduced unintentionally into the recording process by any number of possible causes.
For instance, the acoustical properties of the room where a particular recording was mixed down might have excessively boosted bass frequencies so that when the record is played anywhere else (without the original room’s bass boost), it will sound thin and weak. Perhaps a ballad you recorded has an extremely wide dynamic range, starting off very softly and building to a soaring (and louder) climax. Every time you play the finished recording back in your car, you constantly have to adjust the volume control since the beginning seems too quiet, while the ending nearly blows out your car’s speakers. Maybe you recorded the various songs on your album over a period of months and during that time, you made changes to your recording system, instruments, monitor speakers, etc. As a result, some songs sound different than others, resulting in a disparate sounding collection of recordings that don’t fit together.
Fixing problems such as these are what a talented and experienced mastering engineer does every day, helping artist put out the absolute best recording to their listening public. And home recordings are not the only ones subject to the kinds of problems discussed above. Every major label release goes through the mastering process to help polish the music to its absolute best before it’s pressed and released.
What should you expect from a mastering session?
Here are four points that help make the case for investing in mastering.
1) Objective assessment by a new set of experienced ears.
Mastering engineers are trained to listen objectively and critically to every nuance of your recording. They listen to dozens of different albums a month and as a result have a good idea of what is typical of the best recordings being released in each genre. They can alert you to any potential problems that may exist on your recordings, something as simple as some clicks that you may have missed to larger issues such as too much low end which could result in a muddy-sounding album. They can and should give you an honest appraisal of what would improve your album’s sound and how much time and cost will be involved. Based on their advice, you may decide that it’s worthwhile to go back and remix a particular song to insure something is corrected before making thousands of copies.
2) The best tools to properly master your album.
A good mastering engineer has a wide range of both digital and analog equipment to help them do their job. Perhaps even more importantly, a mastering engineer will evaluate and master your album in a finely tuned, accurate acoustical environment. This allows them to hear precisely what is on your master and judge which adjustments will result in the best-sounding album, one that comes across with impact on the widest variety of playback systems.
3) Polishing your album’s sound.
A talented mastering engineer doesn’t actually change the sound of your music, instead, they work to make it sound more polished. One of the first things you are likely to notice when listening to a well-mastered album is its overall cohesiveness, something that is of little concern when you are recording individual songs. By giving your album this cohesiveness a mastering engineer helps to bind your songs together into a single entity.
A good example might be an artist that features acoustic instruments such as guitars, mandolins, fiddle and string bass. Although the overall blend between the various instruments might sound fine, after mastering, the tracks may have a certain sparkle and airiness to them that was enhanced and brought out by the judicious use of high quality analog EQ in the mastering process. The result is a bright, pleasant sound that wasn’t audible on the original mix master.
For a hip hop artist, the fact that an album may have been mixed on a small pair of near-field monitors may lead to an abundance of very low frequency information on the record that could not be heard in the artist’s own recording studio. Once again, the mastering engineer can consult with the artist and by removing unwanted very low frequencies, often termed “rumble,” the resulting album will have plenty of bass, but much greater definition and clarity on the kick drum and bass guitar. In both hypothetical cases, the final album will sound more professional and compare much more closely with commercial releases.
4) Optimize your album for a variety of delivery formats.
While downloads continue to increase in sales, CDs still account for more than two-thirds of all recorded music sales. So optimizing your album for CD release is one of the key jobs of the mastering engineer. They will also embed the ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) codes into each of your album’s tracks. This digital fingerprint allows music distributors such as iTunes or Rhapsody to track and collect your royalties each time one of your songs sells as a download. If you want to release your music on vinyl, a good mastering engineer can also help prepare your masters for this and recommend a reputable pressing plant. They will also advise you on what works best for the multitude of compressed digital audio file formats if you want to offer downloads on your own website from MP3, to AAC, to WMA as well as the so-called “lossless” compression systems such as MLP, Apple Lossless, and FLAC.
How Expensive is Mastering?
The same revolution that brought home recording tools into the realm of affordability for nearly every musician hasn’t had the same impact on the mastering process. That’s because building a professional mastering room is an expensive undertaking, costing tens of thousands of dollars and an acoustician to insure that the resulting room will be acoustically “neutral.”
Additionally, mastering studios are equipped with a wide range of both analog and digital recording and signal processing equipment, plus a variety of playback monitors which themselves can run additional tens of thousands of dollars. All that said, mastering rates in most large cities vary widely. Depending on the caliber of the rooms and the track record of the mastering engineer, rates can run from around $75/hr up to $250/hr and beyond.
But rather than equating a better quality mastering experience solely with cost, it’s likely a better bet to find an experienced mastering engineer with whom you can communicate clearly. This is especially important since mastering is the final step in the record-making process where any creative changes can be made to your music. Thus, it’s the aesthetic sense and experience of your mastering engineer which are much more critical to achieving a successful mastering outcome than whether he or she uses a particular piece of equipment.
To simplify the budgeting process for mastering, some engineers have begun to charge by the song or the album project, with any subsequent changes charged hourly. Others charge an hourly fee, but should provide an overall estimate of how much time will be needed based on the number of tracks and total running time of your album. Be sure to clarify whether there are any extra fees for CD references, shipping masters, etc. Also, ask how you will be charged for any additional changes you request after the CD ref has been reviewed.
I spoke with three local indie artists that had all had a recent self-produced album project mastered professionally, to see how much they paid. The range of mastering costs went from $750 on the low side to about $1,500 on the high side for all mastering services in these three instances. All three artists agreed that the time and money was well spent and that their finished CD sounded measurably better than their own final mixes.
The Importance of the Reference CD
Once you have consulted with your mastering engineer so they know what you are hoping to achieve through mastering and they have completed mastering your album to your specifications, they will provide you with a reference CD to carefully review. Some mastering houses are now able to deliver your CD ref online via an FTP site, saving you time and money.
It’s the artist’s responsibility to carefully listen to every note on this reference CD on a number of systems (studio, car, home, etc.) to insure that your music is coming across just as you envisioned it. Don’t be shy about asking questions of your mastering engineer at this stage of the game. Their goal is the same as yours: to insure that your album sounds as good as possible. After discussing what you are hearing with you mastering engineer, it’s up to you to decide whether the job is completed or whether a few more tweaks might improve it further. Once your CD has been mastered and the CD reference approved, you can simply have the mastering engineer forward the CD master to your duplicator for production. Keep your final approved reference CD handy, as you can use it to double check that your duplicated CD sounds just as good as the CD reference.
The role of the mastering engineer is an important one. They provide a critical last step in the process of getting your recordings ready to reach your audience, helping to insure that the CD you will be judged by is the absolute best possible sounding representation of your music. That’s why it makes sense to invest in mastering your next album.

It’s amazing how quickly Twitter has become a part of the mainstream culture. What’s even more surprising is how many artists have still not taken the Twitter plunge. At first, the micro-blogging format can be confusing and seem a bit ridiculous, but if you hang in there Twitter can be a powerful asset in your music promotion arsenal that not only helps spread the word about your music, but is great for making real-world connections with people on an individual basis. Since there are a lot of Twitter newbies out there, here are 5 tips for new artists/band getting on Twitter. If you have any other starter tips, feel free to add them by leaving a comment on this post.
1. You have to stick with it and be consistent. Twitter will take some time before you start to see it’s full potential.
2. Start out by following people that tend to discuss topics you like. Seek out other artists/bands that are experienced on Twitter and “follow” them. Chances are you’ll pick up a few points
3. It’s a great tool to help develop your story telling ability. Take everyday events and make them sound interesting.
4. It’s a public forum, so don’t say don’t say anything that you want kept private.
5. Avoid shameless self promotion as much as possible, as people will see right through that on Twitter. Interaction is the key!

Radio Promotion – Why you won’t get commercial airplay

Here is my diatribe on Radio Promotion. Please take it with a grain of salt. Absorb some of the ideas, tailor it to your own needs, or outright reject it. In the end, you know what is best for you. But…
Without the support of a monied label, an extremely well known PR person, or a heavyweight radio promoter on your side I’m fairly certain that you’ll NEVER get sustained or meaningful commercial airplay.
Commercial radio is such a racket. Its a closed system of secret handshakes, payola, and broken promises. Radio promo is a real trail of tears and dashed dreams. The playlists on commercial radio stations are mostly dictated from a central corporate headquarters and the songs are picked based on what record companies are “paying” the most in favors, vacations, junkets, money, cupcakes, drugs, and other various sordid somethings. (ClearChanel anyone?)
An Indie Artist’s only hope is college radio, public radio, community radio, internet radio, or niche programs on commercial radio stations that are specifically focused on local/unsigned music. But luckily for you, me, and the world these venues are exactly where the interesting and important music of today is getting aired.
You could get a radio promoter to help in these areas. But its a ton of money, and in 99.9% of the cases you’d be a salmon swimming upstream only to find a big dam has been built while you were away. You could find much better ways to spend the money you were setting aside for radio. I’d recommend using that money to find a publicist or finance a tour instead.
I’m not trying to dampen your spirits at all, but if you’ve got your heart set on it, make sure you really get the goods on any radio promoter you do work with. They can be a scary bunch sometimes. Check their credentials, their previous successes in promoting indie artists, get some testimonials, and make sure you can check up on their work to make sure they’re giving it their all. And most importantly, make sure its affordable and that they really are enthused about your music. Otherwise, you’ll pay too much for someone doing too little.
Sorry for the big warning. We just want to make sure indie artists are utilizing their limited budgets and resources in the most effective ways possible (and radio promotion at the indie level is a very chancy bargain).
Here’s a few rules for doing radio promo yourself (which I DO recommend):
1) Be prepared to send out 100-200 CDs with One-Sheets
2) Target college, community, and public stations, online radio, blogs, podcats, and commercial specialty programs (like local or unsigned feature hours) that are appropriate for your genre and within a geographic area that you can realistically tour through at least 3 or 4 times a year. Don’t get carried away with Florida if you live in Oregon. Radio doesn’t stay faithful to you if you’re not continually playing in their area, and its a waste of time, energy, and discs if you don’t plan on maintaining the relationship.
3) Get the contact info for particular DJs or hosts on those stations depending on their specialty genres. You may have to send CDs to 3 or 4 different people at the same station (KEXP comes to mind!!!). Its not that they’re lazy. They all just have a constantly growing pile of discs to listen to and they probably won’t be passing discs back and forth, even when they’re jazzed about a certain album.
4) If you’re touring, get the marketing/booking contact at each station that has added your music to their playlist and ask about the possibility of an in-studio performance the day of your show.
5) Big one- – make sure you’re ready and willing to do all this stuff in a short period of time. Your big chance to make any significant dent is when your CD is new (1-3 months old). All your ducks should be in a row. The stars should align for that magical period right before and right after your release where you’re able to put every last bit of energy into your music getting out to the world.
6) Have your CD in hand about 3 months before releasing it. This gives you ample time to prep the release party,… but more importantly it gives reviewers, critics, press, and radio program directors the chance to determine whether they’ll leave it in their pile of CDs that are going to the nearest used record store, or if they want to get behind it. 3 months is also a good lead time to start booking your tour to support the new album once it comes out.
7) After you send out your CDs to radio, check back in a couple weeks by phone or email to make sure they’ve got it, had a chance to listen, and ask if they’ll be adding it to their playlist. Don’t put up a fight if they say NO. Just politely ask “why” and say thanks if they tell you the reason. If they say yes, give them a quick thanks and casually ask what their preferred protocol is for you to check up on the actual reception your album is getting from their listeners. Feel free to check back every few weeks to see if its still in rotation. You might feel like you’re being a pest, but I’ve actually heard from college radio DJs that they appreciate when someone calls to remind them to play a certain song. Otherwise, they tend to feel like they get into a programming rut and just start playing the same old things.
Go! (and continue, and continue, and continue, in 3 month cycles of touring and resting… ad nauseum).
I hope this helps. Its by no means the only way to do radio promo, but it seems like a good place to start, at least. Check out the Indie Bible (http://www.indiebible.com), too. Its a great resource that has many of these contacts listed in nice orderly categories for your quick reference.

Facebook 101: Setting up an artist/band page Pt 1
As Facebook continues it’s dominance in the social network realm, many artists are feeling a bit lost when it comes to promoting their music on the Facebook platform. Naturally, you should be talking about your music on your personal profile just as you talk about other aspects of your life, but there are some good reasons why you should make the leap and take the focused promotion efforts off of your personal Facebook profile and create a Facebook page dedicated to your music.
First we need to clear up a little terminology. Facebook calls the typical individual profiles Personal Profiles and they refer to the profiles created by a brand, product, organization, musician or band as Profile Pages. It can get confusing as they can look similar, but there are some big distinctions in how they work. Also, you must have a Facebook personal profile first before you can create a profile page, so if you’re brand new to Facebook, you’ll have to create that first. Once you’re up and running with a personal profile, here is how you can create a profile page.
How to create your Facebook artist/band page
1. Go to this link http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
2. Select the Artist, Band, or Public Figure button
3. Once that is selected, you will get a drop down menu where you will want to select band or musician
4. Enter in the artist or band name in the “name of page” field and click create page.
Now that the page is created, be sure to post a profile image and drop your bio into the info section.
Why not just use my Facebook personal profile?
As mentioned above, there are some key functionality differences that make a Facebook Profile page a better option for promoting your music which we’ll detail in part 2 of this tutorial. But #1 on the list has to be the security for your personal information. Most people use their personal profiles as a way to share info, pictures and updates with their friends and family. So certain aspects of their life outside of their music career are visible for all who are “friends” to see. Anyone who you grant access to your personal profile (Because they are a fan of your music) might have more info than you really want them to have. Making a Facebook page for your music career allows anyone to be a fan without the worry that they’re getting to know you more than you like.

3 Keys to Easy Goal Setting in 2010

It's not only a new year, it's also the beginning of a new decade! What a great time to renew your commitment to letting your musical light shine and living to your fullest potential.
There's a good chance you've already set some goals for 2010 and are using a planning system of some type to make sure you stay on track. If so, congrats to you!
If not, that OK too. Getting clear about who you are and how you want to grow is something you can do at any time of the year -- whenever the time is right for you.

But I'd like to share a simple way to look at your life and music career in a way that will make it easier to set meaningful goals. This is something I learned from Jim Bunch when I attended one of his Ultimate Game of Life workshops.
Here's the essence of it ...
All the goals you will ever want to achieve can basically be broken down into three key areas of life:

Goals that make you happy

Goals that make you healthy

Goals that make you wealthy

Jim calls it the Happy, Healthy, Wealthy Game. Looking at my life and livelihood in this manner really resonates with me. Perhaps it will with you too.
Too often our goals are focused on only one or two of the three areas. Some really ambitious people just play the Wealthy, Wealthy, Wealthy Game ... and ignore their happiness and health.
Some people who might be described as "slackers" will mainly play the Happy, Happy, Happy Game ... and downplay their health and ability to make money.
Still others focus on health and their appearance at the expense of the other categories.
The trick is finding a balance between all three. Although Jim says that "Happy" is listed first for a reason. It's the area of life most people overlook in the pursuit of achieving their material goals.
I love that idea. Because you're sense of joy and well-being gives you the juice to pursue the other areas of your life -- and music career.
Here are some examples from my own Happy, Healthy and Wealthy goals for the new year:
Happy
- Meditate every morning and enjoy the benefits of a clear mind
- Spend meaningful time with Pooki, my daughter, and good friends every week
- Write, record and/or perform one new song every month
Healthy
- Hit the treadmill and make a health shake every morning
- Do some strength training for 20 to 30 minutes three times a week
- Get up from the computer once every hour to stretch and move
Wealthy
- Write, publish and promote two new books this year
- Go through my audio and video archives and create at least five new info-products this year
- Pay off the Visa card bill and home equity loan
Now get out a notebook or journal, or open a new document on your computer. Type in the three category headings: Happy, Healthy and Wealthy. Then start adding meaningful goals in each of the three areas. And make certain there's an equal balance between them all.
Do this -- really do this! -- and you'll have a happier, healthier and wealthier year in 2010.

I have to admit the first time I saw these shoes I was like WTF? But I LOVE these shoes! I just bought them last Thursday and I cant take them off!.. Research has proven the benefits of barefoot running. Vibram has created an awesome shoe that lets you take full advantage of those benefits and protect your feet as well! I workout in them and i must say that they are quite the attention getters! Saturday I did sprints in them up hills! Awesome!! So.. I could spend all day talking about the benifits of these shoes but you could learn yourself @ VibramFivefingers.com honestly my feet are a little sore but thats only because I my muscles in my feet have not been used because of the use of traditional shoes. I have noticed an increase in leg strength and balance already. I would recommend these for anyone who is willing to try something different!

OMG!...I'm 30! Byron's Birthday Bash-a-thon!

Ok.. how do I start off what was supposed to be a regular birthday weekend for one of my best friends Byron. Ok well, if u know Byron then u know that it's not going to be anything regular! Ok so we all decided to meet up in New Orleans for Byron's "OMG...I'm 30! Birthday Bash-a-thon! " I did not know what the plans were until I got here even though I saw the itinerary twice, cuz u just never know with Byron. So we go to this spot called Monkey Hill.(I know Right?) Ironically enough, there are zero black people at monkey hill.. But it is an awesome bar to hang out! I had never been.. But I do want to go back! I really loved the plush sofa lounge area set up! A-1! So I have to give it up to Koraan and Pat for putting together a real nice party for Byron. The theme was Memoirs of a Geisha! The best part was that they actually had the movie playin on the screen in the bar! We had Sushi rolls all night and were drinking the night away! The guest list
included myself,Sinali,Kurt T and his Fiancee,Sergio and (ebony), pat Koraan and Damian! Ok so I think nobody drank more than the Birthday boy himself! He was wasted off of 4 Bookers!(idk just some Hella strong ass liquor that u should not have more than one shot of.) anyway, this dude was done! I mean he drank like a fish! We had a ball just laughing at his ass all night! So I was deemed the Paparazzi all night because I had the big cool looking camera! But nothing beat me following Byron into the bathroom and before I snap the photo Sergio yells "Who's ya Daddy Bitch!" and Byron goes into complete panic/bitch mode! He said he thought he was about to get raped on his B-day! Hilarious!!!! All in all we had a great time! We went to 360 after than just to keep the party going but it truly was a classic night to remember! OMG! I'm 30!! Classic!

U ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!
I am Super excited about my new Power Mogul Productions Brand. I started this brand to give people a fresh look as to what I am doing and have been doing for the past few months. This is the Low Res Version but I think its dope. Make Sure you tell everyone you think that you know that its going down like there is a wale in the boat! PMP is officially on the MAP! I think people forget the importance of branding yourself. There is nothing like originality. If you got a certain style.. Brand that Sh*T before someone else does. I have had MANY Ideas Stolen from me because I didnt carry them out long enough to ensure them and put my stamp on it. Then someone else just picked up where I left off and finished the blueprint I created. (Sucks I know) But you know.. thats how it is out here.. Its Business.. We are not friends. So It was a hard lesson learned. At the end of the day I had to respect it and LEARN from it.

I realize that people may be wondering where do I get off calling myself a "Mogul" if they have never heard of me before. Being a mogul is a mindset; It is the ability to know that anything you do will be profitable. It is the actualized Boss Mindset. Maybe you are thinking.. "Who does he think he is?" So this entry is to provide a little background information about who the "Power Mogul" is.
In 2002 I started a New Orleans based entertainment company "Effortless Entertainment." I started as a record producer and was soon rubbing elbows with many of the South's premier artists as Platinum selling artists Nappy Roots, David Banner, Cash Money Artists, Six-Shot,Mack Maine (Young Money), K. Gates (BET's Ultimate Hustler) ect.. And many local artists: Ms Tee, Cheeky Black, Hot Boy Ronald and many of the New Orleans greats. During this time my company released several mixtapes featuring many of these artists (Mixtapes will be available for purchase on this site soon.) "This is Effortless Vol.1", "504 Takeover", "effortless" the group album.
Looking to set my sights on greater accomplishments, I moved to Washington D.C. in August 2002 to further my music career. I auditioned for P.Diddy's "Making The Band." However they were not looking for producers only artists. I decided to stay on the East Coast for 6 months during witch I gave my tracks out to many famous artists such as Lil' Jon, Devin the Dude, 8 Ball & MJG. I ended up hosting a freestyle competition in Philadelphia called "Mic Check 2002" with Dice Raw of the Platinum Selling Roots Band. There I met up with DoodleBug from Grammy nominated Digable Planets. I moved back home to be closer to family.
In 2003 I released DownsouthHipHopSpaceMuzik (My most creative and free spirited work to date.) This was my debut producton release. The Hit Single "Dirty Dirty" (Feat. B.Stille nad R. Prophet of Nappy Roots) was a Southern Club anthem. This was my first actual "Radio Hit."
In 2005 I started Hit Makers Enterprise with my cousin "GRIP." Moving the business to Baton Rouge where I started a Recording Studio as well as a string of events to promote the brand as well as GRIP the artist. 2006 the release of "Fresh Out" created quite the online buzz in the local scene. Hit Makers Enterprise H.M.E. was rapidly gaining speed and respect as one of the premier entertainment powerhouses in Louisiana. The Hit Single "WOW" (Not to be confused with KIA SHINE's fraudulent version of our song)Rang from every Club to every
Club in the region. From there I went on to do a host of Commercials for parties and clubs.
This is partially what started the creation of the mogul. Once I realized that I could essentially make ANYTHING Possible.. I knew what it took to be a Mogul.

Ok. This is my first blog on Blogspot.com. I didnt really know what to type in the heading box so I just posed the question. "Why we Be Bloggin?" I really dont have an answer besides the fact that I guess everyone feels like they have something to say and just wished they had an audience to listen to it.
I feel now is the best time for me to start documenting my thoughts.. cuz hey, who knows how long I'll be here and somebody has to recognize that im a genius before I leave. Right? Right. So.. Why Do We Be Bloggin?.. I guess these blogs are a way that we can show off our truly creative or satirical nature to the world. Maybe its also a way to release some stress.
